An interesting take, from a fighter who now goes by the nickname of "Feelgood." Perhaps that’s a reference to his current state of mind as an employee for World Series of Fighting?

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight contender Jacob Volkmann is all set to make his World Series of Fighting (WSOF) debut at the rookie promotion’s third event this June, taking on Lyle Beerbohm at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But he’s not done with UFC just yet.

"Feelgood" is still "very bitter" about the way things went down outside the Octagon, including the "horrible" healthcare plan he was offered and the way the promotion treats 95-percent of its fighters, specifically, those not competing on a UFC main card.

Volks breaks it down for Above and Beyond MMA:

"Very bitter. They always claim that they treat the fighters so well. Yeah, they treat the top five percent of the fighters well – the ones that are on the main card all the time. They don’t treat the rest of them very well. The healthcare plan is horrible, with a $1,500 deductible per injury – the catastrophic-injury insurance is not even really good insurance. There’s no retirement fund, there’s no signing bonus. You start off at six-and-six, you’re really not making too much money because you’re self-employed, so you’re paying the self-employment tax and you’re paying the regular tax and income tax. So you’re paying twice as much in tax. They claim they’re treating the fighters well, but they’re not, realistically. People always tell me, ‘You’re rich – you’re on TV!’ Are you kidding me? I made $54,000 two years ago, paid $9,000 in taxes, so that leaves me with $45,000. This last year, I made $50,000 and paid $8,000 in taxes. That leaves me with $42,000 – that’s barely above poverty. I have three kids and a wife I’m supporting. I’m trying to make the fans realize what the UFC is really like – I’m going to expose them as much as I can. But also my goal is to win in World Series and try to stay undefeated. Obviously it’s to win. The short-term goal is to win. The long-term goal is, as soon as they come out with that belt, I’d like to get that belt."

Well, at least it gets him off President Obama’s back (for now).

Volkmann was last seen tapping out to Strikeforce import Bobby Green at the UFC 156 pay-per-view (PPV) event earlier this year. It was his second submission loss in a span of three fights, but just his second defeat since early 2010 when he rebounded with five consecutive victories.

UFC had to spill some blood.

His untimely release may have been a bit more surprising, had it not come around the same time that former welterweight number one contender Jon Fitch was put out to pasture. Regardless, he’ll have a second chance to make his mark in mixed martial arts (MMA) on June 14 in "Sin City."

And hopefully keep himself above "poverty."

Matthew Riddle has a new gig. And no, he hasn’t opened a marijuana dispensary.

MMA’s most vocal pro-pro advocate this side of Nick Diaz has found a home in Bellator MMA. The company officially announced Monday that the welterweight standout will compete in their season nine tournament.

Riddle (7-3, 2 no-contests) had his hand raised after each of his past four UFC fights. But twice in that span, his post-fight drug tests turned up positive for marijuana, causing the results to be overturned to no-contests. After the second, originally a split-decision win over Che Mills on Feb. 16, the UFC released Riddle.

The Las Vegas-based fighter had signed with the Texas-based Legacy Fighting Championship, but Bellator bought out Riddle’s contract.

"I had so many options after I left the UFC, but knowing that I was able to compete in a tournament against guys like Paul Daley, Ben Saunders, and Douglas Lima, signing with Bellator was an easy decision," Riddle said. "This division is just so stacked, and being able to fight in a tournament makes it even better. Bellator is doing a lot of great things right now, and I want to be a part of it."

In a press release, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney noted concerns with Riddle’s marijuana use — he carries a Nevada medical marijuana card — but ultimately decided Riddle was worth the risk.

"Matt’s got all the tools to be a force in our welterweight division," Rebney said. "When I saw Matt get released from the UFC coming off 4 straight wins including his dominant win over Mills in February, we took notice. We both realize that Matt will have a target on his back for his past indiscretions. But having discussed it with him, I’m comfortable that he’s in the right place to enter the Bellator cage this fall in what will be the most loaded Bellator Welterweight Tournament in the promotions history."

Riddle laid out his Bellator goals.

"No questions asked, I want to win the next Bellator Welterweight Tournament, get my shot at the title and take my beautiful wife to the MTV Awards and meet Snoop Dogg," Riddle remarked. "I’ve seen all the pictures of Bellator guys walking red carpets and it’s something I want to earn and be able to do. What could be better than that?"

Tatame by way of Bloody Elbow reports that June 15th’s UFC 161 has lost its main event. UFC interim 135 pound champion Renan Barao was set to face Eddie Wineland in the event’s headlining match but the Brazilian has reportedly been forced to pull out due to injury.

Barao is reported to have injured a foot. He became the interim champion by beating Urijah Faber after champion Dominick Cruz went on injured reserve because of multiple knee ligament injuries. Wineland is on a two-fight win streak and Barao recently defended the interim belt by choking out Michael McDonald and earning his 20th consecutive win.

As of yet, the extent of Barao’s injury is unknown and so then is how long he will be out of action. No word yet from the UFC, either, on a substitution main event for UFC 161.
